Westin Los Angeles Airport

This mural is inspired by the constant motion of people coming and going from the hotel, which is a major hub for travel to and from Los Angeles. Though abstract, the mural is informed by natural shapes including butterfly wings, leaves, and the patterns of wind over sand. Westin’s signature color palette was heightened with a mix of metallic bronze and golds creating a reflective sheen that contrasts with velvety flat blends. Thanks to artist Coco.Nella for help bringing all the details to life. Photos by Caitlyn Montgomery.

The Westin had us back to paint the back entry of the hotel with the theme of the El Segundo Blue Butterfly. The mural was designed in the same style as the front entry, utilizing gloss and metallic paints and incorporating a sense of motion and a color fade from dark to light.
