Fire Poppy

After the Eaton Fire and vandalism at Pasadena Jewish Temple and Center, this mural was created with students and community members as a symbol of hope and renewal. I collaborated with students to develop the mural’s concepts, and children of all ages helped complete the painting. Older students selected designs for the mural’s border and hand-painted them in.

We built the mural around California flora and fauna as symbols of resilience and renewal. In particular, the California native fire poppy germinate after smoke from a fire, symbolizing beauty from the ashes. The stained glass look was inspired by the Temple’s famous Ark doors.

Thanks to Sparks of Kindness Youth Fund and Art Over Hate Collective, and artists Nick Martinez and Kristine Campbell for making this possible.
